Red-fronted Macaw Ecolodge Tour

The Red-fronted Macaw Ecolodge was created as a sustainable local community development project to secure the conservation of this endangered endemic spectacular macaw. The lodge is located across the river from the most important Red-fronted Macaw breeding cliff in Bolivia (see the area and birds description in our Where to watch birds section). The area holds at least 130 species of birds, including five parrot species (Red-fronted Macaw, Cliff Parakeet, Blue-fronted Parrot, Mitred Parakeet, and Yellow-cheveroned Parakeet). The Red-fronted Macaw is present at the cliff throughout the year, but the best time to visit the site is from January to April while there is all day breeding activity. Here we offer a four-day (three nights at the lodge) tour for up to five people from the starting point of Santa Cruz, Bolivia. The Bird Bolivia tour will start at 8 am in Santa Cruz, either from your arrival in Bolivia at the Santa Cruz airport, or a hotel of your choosing. The drive will take approximately seven hours, with a nice lunch break in the town of Samaipata. You will be returned to Santa Cruz in the late afternoon of the fourth day. The last three tours in 2007 commented that the Red-fronted Macaw lodge was “fantastic”. Prices include transportation, lodge, food (except alcoholic beverages), and an English/Spanish speaking Bolivian bird guide.
